This unusual coat was made in the late 1940s from cream wool (believed to be alpaca). The textile has been woven with blue and red stylised folk patterns and the coat was cut in a casual loose fitting silhouette. The large collar leads to a single row of three buttons and loops that fasten the coat at the front. Functional pockets at the waist add a practical element and the hem and sleeve cuffs have been adorned with fringing. Inside, the coat is unlined and has a maker’s label for Sambol Handwoven in Guatemala.
Bust: 41”
Shoulders: 16 1/2” seam to seam
Length: 26” without fringe
The coat is in good condition with only a few minor flaws as pictured.
