Unbelievable Rare Original 1950s Volup Vintage Navy Blue Parisian Couture Swing Coat With Soutache Decoration
This incredible coat was made from navy blue wool in the 1950s. It was cut in a classic swing coat silhouette which falls loosely from the wearer’s padded shoulders giving it wonderful volume and swish. The entire coat has been expertly adorned with soutache embroidery which must have taken hundreds of hours of work! This beautiful soutache work increases in density to highlight key features of the coat such as the long lapels running down the length of the front, the sleeve edges and the surrounds of the slit waist pockets. The workmanship on this piece is impeccable and the inside is lined in rayon. There are two labels, a Made in France label depicting a stylised 1950s woman with three large swallows as well as a maker’s label for Paule Gilbert Couture. This fabulous coat was made by the couturier Paule Gilbert who was based at 15 Boulevard de La Madeleine in Paris, in the exclusive first arrondissement, right around the corner from the Ritz hotel. The couture workmanship is evident in its construction and detailing and this piece would make a wonderful addition to any collection.
