Superb Original 1940s 40s Black Wool Princess Coat With Gorgeous Buttons
This superb coat was made from a high quality black wool in the 1940s. It was cut in a classic fit and flare style with padded shoulders, a nipped waist and a beautifully flared skirt. The coat features a double breasted design with a large amount of overlap and fastens with six stunning flower shaped buttons. The late wrap over collar falls as a large rounded shawl effect at the back and beautiful princess seaming enhances the strong silhouette. At the front, the coat has one faux pocket on the right and a functional pocket on the left, almost hidden in the overlap of the coat. The tailoring of this piece is of superb quality, you can just feel the richness of the fabric. Inside, the coat is lined in sumptuous black satin with a super warm wool interlining and has a maker’s label for A.B. Sutherland Co.
Bust: 34”
Waist: 28”
Shoulders: 16 1/2”
Length: 47 1/2” plus 2” hem
The coat is in very good condition with only a small seam split at the side of the collar. The buttons could be moved by up to 6”, which would however reduce the overlap.
