Super Rare Original 1940s 40s Vintage Red Swing Coat With Grey Astrakhan Collar By Carl Of New York
This incredible coat was made from bright red wool in the 1940s. It was cut in a classic swing coat silhouette with large padded shoulders and a loose fit below. The entire shoulder area has been adorned with sumptuous grey astrakhan fur which extends into a small stand up collar. At the back, the fabric has been beautifully gathered below the fur, allowing it to fall in large pleats down the wearer’s back. The coat fastens at the front with four lovely fabric covered buttons and there are small slit pockets at the waist. Inside, it is lined in rich red satin with a warm wool interlining and bears the highly collectible maker’s label for Carl of New York as well as the National Recovery Board tag. Carl of New York pieces are synonymous with impeccable tailoring and high quality fabrics that only the most luxurious of period pieces would have utilised.
Bust: 46” but intended to be very loose fitting
Shoulders: 15” seam to seam
Length: 45”
The coat is in very good condition with only a few very minor fabric grazes and slight balding to the fur. One of the buttons is smaller than the others but we would suggest moving it up to the fur section where it would be less noticeable.
