Super Rare Original 1920s Volup Art Deco Black Hooded Cape Cloak By Bonwit Teller
This incredible cape was made in the 1920s from the softest black wool (likely a cashmere blend) with a beautiful nap almost reminiscent of velvet. It was cut in a wonderful long length with a distinct shoulder yolk. Below the shoulder yolk areas of delicate shirring add volume to the body of the cape and give it lovely movement and flow. A single button fastens the cloak at the neck and an oversized collar can be worn either up as a hood or draping over the back. Inside, the cape is lined in black silk and has an inside pocket. There is also a maker’s label for Bonwit Teller & Co of Fifth Avenue New York, which matches the label used by this iconic store in the mid-1920s.
Due to the design this piece is very flexible in size but best for bust 44” or below to ensure the edges meet at the front
Length: 41”
The cloak is in very good condition with only a few very minor flaws as pictured.
