Super Rare Late 1930s / Early 1940s Wartime Vintage Navy Puff Sleeve Coat By Hattie Carnegie
This incredible coat was made from a thick navy blue wool in the late 1930s / early 1940s. It has all the fabulous features you would expect from a wartime coat with beautifully gathered and padded puff shoulders as well as a nod to military styling in the shape of the small functional bust pockets. The sharp notched lapel collar leads to a single row of five red metal buttons which fasten the coat at the front. Matching buttons also adorn the bust pockets for a wonderful red and blue patriotic effect. Inside, the coat is lined in crepe and bears the rare collectible maker’s label for Hattie Carnegie Little Salon.
Hattie Carnegie was famous for beautiful tailoring and exquisite designs and fabrics sourced from France and this may well be one of the last pieces that had the benefit of French design and fabric before those transport channels were closed by WW2. A true piece of history!
