Stunning Original Vintage 1950s 50s Charcoal Lilli Ann Blazer With Gold Mustard Yellow Shot Silk
This stunning blazer was made in the 1950s from a fine textured virgin wool in dark charcoal grey shot with gold flecks throughout. It was cut in the classic hourglass silhouette of the period with padded shoulders and a nipped waist. The collar, placket, cuffs and functional square bust pocket details have been highlighted with gold coloured binding to give a beautiful contrast. The bust pockets have been adorned with a transparent lucite button each and matching buttons have been used at the turn up cuffs and to fasten the blazer.
This is a real statement piece with the classic high quality tailoring one has come to expect of Lilli Ann pieces. The attention to detail is just impeccable and the fabric screams of quality! Inside, the blazer is lined in mustard yellow crepe with those lovely straps that allow you to drape the blazer over your shoulders rather than wearing the sleeves.
It, of course, bears the collectible Lilli Ann of San Francisco label as well as the Fabric of France tag. This is also one of the rare pieces that has featured in Lilli Ann advertising and we have attached a picture of the matching advert (it once was a suit, oh how we wish it still had its skirt!). Apparently this design also featured in an editorial in one of the big fashion magazines of the time (Vogue or Harper’s Bazaar, we aren’t 200% sure)!
Bust: 35”
Waist: 26”
Shoulders: 14 1/2” seam to seam
Length: 22 1/2”
The blazer is in very good condition with only some barely visible seam repairs at the sleeve, some very faint discolouration to the gold trim at the cuffs and collar and a few marks to the lining as pictured. We are not sure whether the buttons are original and one of them is slightly chipped as pictured.
This garment is available to purchase with or without dress shields. These clever little contraptions have been made by our seamstress to an original 1940s pattern and can be simply attached to your garment by tack stitching at the corners of the underarm seam, pinning (we wouldn’t recommend that, it hurts if it goes wrong, so if you try this, it is at your own risk only) or inserting tiny poppers. They then stand ready to absorb any sweat and body odours as needed and you can simply detach and launder them instead of your garment, saving you a fortune in dry cleaning bills.
They are equally suitable for suits, blazers and dresses and come in two different options:
1. Pure cream cotton for your heavier weight dresses, blazers and suits
or
2. White cotton muslin for lightweight summer dresses (so they don’t show through the fabric)
They are universally sized and super easy to use even for a sewing novice as only a couple of tiny stitches are required at each side to secure them.
We sell Dress Shields as a standalone item or at a discount if you purchase them with a garment. We will select the appropriate type to match the garment you have purchased.
