Stunning Original Late 1940s Vintage Forest Green New Look Suit
This stunning suit was made in the late 1940s from emerald green wool blend. It was cut in the classic new look silhouette of the period with lightly padded shoulders, a tightly nipped waist and a flared skirt. The small sharp collar leads to a single row of seven beautiful fabric covered buttons that fasten the blazer. Clever darting creates a tightly fitted shape to the jacket and a small V slit in the back hem allows it to accommodate the flared skirt. Inside, the jacket is unlined and appears to be handmade. The original owner studied costume design in New York City in the 1920s and later opened her own clothing boutique in the city so it was likely made by her. The matching skirt falls in dozen of pleats giving it beautiful volume and swish and would look stunning with added petticoats. It fastens at the back with an original metal zipper and hook and popper closure above.

This garment is available to purchase with or without dress shields. These clever little contraptions have been made by our seamstress to an original 1940s pattern and can be simply attached to your garment by tack stitching at the corners of the underarm seam, pinning (we wouldn’t recommend that, it hurts if it goes wrong, so if you try this, it is at your own risk only) or inserting tiny poppers. They then stand ready to absorb any sweat and body odours as needed and you can simply detach and launder them instead of your garment, saving you a fortune in dry cleaning bills.
They are equally suitable for suits, blazers and dresses and come in pure white cotton.
They are universally sized and super easy to use even for a sewing novice as only a couple of tiny stitches are required at each side to secure them.
