Stunning Original 1950s Vintage Bright Red Knit Set By Bobby Brooks

This fabulous knit set was made from bright red knitted chenille wool in the 1950s. The top was cut to be a loose fit and is very accommodating for a variety of sizes due to the dolman sleeves. Strong shoulder pads add shape to the top and the small rounded collar leads to a single row of seven fabric covered buttons which fasten the jacket. A gold tone belt buckle decorates the attached fabric belt which cinched in the waist. The matching skirt was fashioned in a flattering ribbed knit and a beautiful longer length. It is rib stitched at the waist allowing flexibility of fit. Both pieces are unlined and there is a maker's label for Bobbie Brooks Knits in the top. 

There is a substantial amount of stretch to the fabric and we have shown below the measurements at ease and at maximum comfortable stretch.

Bust: 42-46” measured into the dolman sleeve

Waist: 24-29” possibly a little more depending on belt setting

Length: 19 1/2”

Skirt

Waist: 28”-32”

Hips: 30-44”

Length: 36”

The knit set is in very good condition with only a couple of faint marks and some damage to the belt, which is hidden when worn as pictured.

This garment is available to purchase with or without dress shields. These clever little contraptions have been made by our seamstress to an original 1940s pattern and can be simply attached to your garment by tack stitching at the corners of the underarm seam, pinning (we wouldn’t recommend that, it hurts if it goes wrong, so if you try this, it is at your own risk only) or inserting tiny poppers. They then stand ready to absorb any sweat and body odours as needed and you can simply detach and launder them instead of your garment, saving you a fortune in dry cleaning bills.

They are equally suitable for suits, blazers and dresses and come in two different options:

1. Pure cream cotton for your heavier weight dresses, blazers and suits

or

2. White cotton muslin for lightweight summer dresses (so they don’t show through the fabric)

They are universally sized and super easy to use even for a sewing novice as only a couple of tiny stitches are required at each side to secure them.
