Stunning Original 1940s Vintage Steel Blue Grey Skirt Suit
This stunning suit was made in the 1940s from wool crepe in a gorgeous pale steel blue shade. It was cut in the classic hourglass silhouette of the period with padded shoulders and a nipped waist. The notched lapel collar leads to a single row of five fabric covered buttons that fasten the blazer at the front and a beautiful three slit and diamanté detail draws the attention to the wearer’s left shoulder. Top stitching adorned the edges of the collar, placket and hem and clever darting cinches in the waist and allows the jacket hem to flare out into a stiffened peplum. Turn up cuffs finish off the sleeves and inside the blazer is lined in soft lilac crepe. There is a maker’s label for Friedmont and a retailer’s tag for Schleisner Co of Baltimore. The matching skirt was cut in a gentle A line and fastens with an original metal side zipper and button closure above.
