LAYAWAY PAYMENT 2 OF 2 - RESERVED FOR CLEMENTINE - Stunning Original 1940s Vintage CC41 Utility Rayon Novelty Print Skirt Suit
RESERVED FOR CLEMENTINE - PLEASE DO NOT PURCHASE - LAYAWAY 2 OF 2 due 18th June 2023
This fabulous suit was made in the 1940s from a periwinkle blue rayon with an abstract swirled foliage print. It was cut in the classic 1940s hourglass silhouette with padded shoulders and a nipped waist. The large collar, buttoned shoulder tabs and gathered sleeve tops further enhance the strong shoulder line. Clever darting creates pleats that run across the bodice giving it a lovely blousy look before nipping in the waist for that beautifully fitted silhouette. Below the waist seam, a small peplum finishes off the jacket and beautiful faux pearl buttons adorn the jacket which fastens with poppers behind. The skirt has been gored throughout to create fabulous pleats and moving and it fastens with hooks at the waist and a replacement plastic zipper. Both pieces are unlined and the skirt has the collectible CC41 utility label.
Shoulders: 14 1/2” seam to seam
Length: 27” plus 1 3/4” hem
The suit is in fair condition, however there are a number of repairs, darns and frays as well as a couple of light spots and some untidy seam work as pictured. The repairs blend well with the busy pattern.
This garment is available to purchase with or without dress shields. These clever little contraptions have been made by our seamstress to an original 1940s pattern and can be simply attached to your garment by tack stitching at the corners of the underarm seam, pinning (we wouldn’t recommend that, it hurts if it goes wrong, so if you try this, it is at your own risk only) or inserting tiny poppers. They then stand ready to absorb any sweat and body odours as needed and you can simply detach and launder them instead of your garment, saving you a fortune in dry cleaning bills.
They are equally suitable for suits, blazers and dresses and come in two different options:
1. Pure cream cotton for your heavier weight dresses, blazers and suits
2. White cotton muslin for lightweight summer dresses (so they don’t show through the fabric)
They are universally sized and super easy to use even for a sewing novice as only a couple of tiny stitches are required at each side to secure them.
We sell Dress Shields as a standalone item or at a discount if you purchase them with a garment. We will select the appropriate type to match the garment you have purchased.
