Rare Original Volup Vintage Early 1940s 40s Beaded Brown Gabardine Jacket With Norfolk Belt Back By Polly Parker
This incredible jacket was made from brown wool gabardine in the early 1940s. It was cut in a flattering hourglass silhouette with padded shoulders and a nipped waist. The waist is further highlighted through the use of an integral belt at the back in the classic Norfolk style. This belt allows the jacket to fall into beautiful pleats above it whilst creating a small peplum below the belt. The tops of the sleeves are gently gathered and the small rounded off collar leads to a single row of five fabric covered buttons which fasten the jacket at the front. The tailoring on this piece is simply exquisite! However, the real highlight is the intricate bronze beadwork, which adorns the collar as well as the front and back of the peplum. Inside, the jacket is lined in rust crepe and has a maker’s label for Polly Parker.
Shoulders: 17 1/2” seam to seam
Length: 25 1/4”
The jacket is in very good condition with only a small repair, a graze and a few missing beads as pictured. There is also some discolouration to the lining, mainly at the shoulders, likely from a rusty hanger, but this is not visible when worn.
