Rare Original Late 1940s / Early 1950s Volup Vintage Red Knit Sweater Set With Beading
This fabulous sweater set was made from rich red wool in the late 1940s / early 1950s. The top fastens with a press stud at the neck followed by a row of eight gold coloured buttons at the front and has a cross striped waistband at the hem. The small collar was adorned with beading as well as paste studs and faux pearls in the shape of a flower with foliage. Inside, the top is unlined and has a maker’s label for Kim’s. The matching skirt was knitted in the classic ribbed design of the period and has an elasticated waist to fit a range of sizes. The colour of this piece is so wonderfully bright and with its sparkly collar, it would make an ideal piece for the holidays as well as the rest of winter, to keep you snuggly and warm. These knit sets are literally like wearing a hug!
There is a significant amount of stretch to the fabric and we have shown below first the measurements at ease and secondly the maximum stretch.
Top
Bust: 36”-46” (potentially a little more as the top has dolman sleeves)
Waist: 24”-30” (32” at a hard stretch)
Length: 20”
Skirt
Waist: 24”-32”
Hips: 36”-46”
Length: 31”
The knit set is in very good condition with only a missing bead on the collar as pictured. There are a couple of barely visible marks on the skirt as well as a tiny thread pull on the collar. Some of the buttons have lost their gold colouring (I think I actually prefer them as they are) and there is some later internal overlooking to prevent fraying.
