Original Vintage 1940s 40s Black Wrap Over Velvet Evening Dress With Glass Bead Belt
This gorgeous dress was made from a black rayon velvet in the late 1940s. The bust is cut in an unusual wrap over style, which is fastened with the matching fabric belt. The belt has been adorned with stunning flower shaped glass beads and fastens with a press stud. The sides of the waist are gathered for a super flattering fit and the skirt features a very high and daring split, which may benefit from a decorative underskirt for the less daring wearer. The collar is cut in an unusual stand up design at the back, turning collarless at the front and fabric covered buttons adorn the sleeve cuffs.
Bust: 38” possibly a few inches more depending on desired overlap
Waist: 34” belt set a 33” currently

The dress is in good condition, however there is some slight spotting to the fabric as well as some marks as pictured. There is a darned hole at the sleeve and wear to the pile on the other sleeve and each cuff is missing one button.

This garment is available to purchase with or without dress shields. These clever little contraptions have been made by our seamstress to an original 1940s pattern and can be simply attached to your garment by tack stitching at the corners of the underarm seam, pinning (we wouldn’t recommend that, it hurts if it goes wrong, so if you try this, it is at your own risk only) or inserting tiny poppers. They then stand ready to absorb any sweat and body odours as needed and you can simply detach and launder them instead of your garment, saving you a fortune in dry cleaning bills.
They are equally suitable for suits, blazers and dresses and come in two different options:
1. Pure cream cotton for your heavier weight dresses, blazers and suits
or
2. White cotton muslin for lightweight summer dresses (so they don’t show through the fabric)
They are universally sized and super easy to use even for a sewing novice as only a couple of tiny stitches are required at each side to secure them.
