Original Vintage 1940s 40s Forest Green Gabardine Skirt Suit With Incredible Button Peplum
This wonderful suit was made in the 1940s from a forest green gabardine. It features the classic hourglass cut with those strong 1940s shoulders combined with a nipped waist. The v-neckline has an unusual diamond style lapel and collar design which marks the beginning of a line of four fabric covered buttons. The peplum of the suit finishes slightly longer than one would normally expect, which gives it the potential to fit a taller lady. The hem of the jacket is finished with a strip of fabric where the gabardine was cut against the grain, giving it a subtlety shiny effect. To the back, there is a long box pleated peplum which is decorated using six fabric covered buttons. Inside, the jacket is lined in brown crepe and does not have any maker’s labels. The matching skirt is made from the same gabardine fabric and has a metal side zipper and button fastening.
Shoulders: 15 1/2” seam to seam
Waist: 28 1/2”
Length: 29” plus 2 1/4”
The skirt suit is in good condition, there are some surface nibbles to the jacket as well as some holes to the skirt as pictured. There is also some underarm discolouration to the jacket lining. The rear vent would originally have been decorated with eight instead of six buttons but the two missing buttons do not detract from this stunning suit.
