Original Victorian 1890s 1900s Antique Black Riding Habit Jacket With Lace Decoration
This incredible jacket was made from black wool in the Victorian era. It was cut with classic late Victorian puffed shoulders and a small sweeping shawl collar which has been decorated with black velvet. This black velvet detailing is mirrored at the interesting half cuffs, which are also adorned with soutache lace and decorative stitching. The same lace runs in parallel strips down the front and back of the jacket as well as being used on the collar and placket edge. The lower section of the back features further decorative stitch detailing and buttons, which give this jacket a riding habit style. Inside the jacket is unlined and there are three button loops at the front edge but the original buttons are no longer present. Once buttoned this would create a pleasing asymmetrical effect. We will add some nice black buttons before posting (apologies my button stash is at home).
Shoulders: 14 3/4” seam to seam
The jacket is in very good condition with only a couple of barely noticeable repairs mainly where the buttons once were. There may have once been matching decorative buttons on the stitch detailing at the front and the original lining has been removed.
