Original Early 1960s Cream Beaded And Sequinned Cardigan Sweater By Gene Shelly
This gorgeous sweater was made from soft cream coloured wool in the early 1960s. It is covered in its entirety in the most beautifully lustrous sequins, graduating from the shoulder line to a wider spaced arrangement near the hem. A faux collar has been delineated using beading and the plackets, hem and cuffs feature densely arranged sequins. Inbetween the sequins, the sweater was also adorned with beaded floral and foliage motifs at both the front and back. The cardigan fastens with concealed hooks and eyes at the edge of the plackets. The workmanship really is absolutely exquisite! Inside, the sweater is lined in fine crepe and bears the maker’s mark for Gene Shelly’s Boutique Internationale. They were famous for heavily beaded and sequinned dresses and sweaters that display an iridescence when worn. The Boutique International line started appearing in the shops in 1962 and proved incredibly popular. We can’t think of a better piece to keep you both snug and warm in the cold season whilst also making you literally sparkle!
