Original 1950s 50s Vintage Turquoise Floral Dress
This gorgeous summer dress was made from a lightweight rayon mix in the 1950s. The print depicts a wonderful range of flowers including roses, lillys and elder flowers in shades of pale pink, lilac and white on a turquoise background. The addition of bright green foliage gives a pleasing colour contrast. The notched lapel collar marks the beginning of a row of six transparent pressed glass buttons which are used to fasten the dress. Panels of beautiful pin tucks run down the length of the dress from the bust to the hem on both sides of the button placket. The craftsmanship on these pin tucks is just superb considering they are completely pattern matched ensuring there is no distortion in the print. Small gathers at the back of the waist give the dress lovely shaping around the bum. Inside, the dress is unlined and has a makers label for Caldwell Casuals.
Bust: 34”
Waist: 27”
Hips: 42”
Length: 42”
The dress is in good condition with only a few tiny holes and marks as pictured, which blend in with the busy pattern. There is also larger whole in back of collar placket where the fabric is doubled up, which is not visible from the outside. The stitching at the right underarm seam is a little untidy and there is a small hole which needs repairing.

This garment is available to purchase with or without dress shields. These clever little contraptions have been made by our seamstress to an original 1940s pattern and can be simply attached to your garment by tack stitching at the corners of the underarm seam, pinning (we wouldn’t recommend that, it hurts if it goes wrong, so if you try this, it is at your own risk only) or inserting tiny poppers. They then stand ready to absorb any sweat and body odours as needed and you can simply detach and launder them instead of your garment, saving you a fortune in dry cleaning bills.
They are equally suitable for suits, blazers and dresses and come in two different options:
1. Pure cream cotton for your heavier weight dresses, blazers and suits
or
2. White cotton muslin for lightweight summer dresses (so they don’t show through the fabric)
They are universally sized and super easy to use even for a sewing novice as only a couple of tiny stitches are required at each side to secure them.
We sell Dress Shields as a standalone item or at a discount if you purchase them with a garment. We will select the appropriate type to match the garment you have purchased.
