Original Late 1940s 40s Vintage Navy Blue Coat With Soutache Fleur De Lis Design By Forstmann
This fabulous coat was made from a navy blue wool crepe in the late 1940s. It is cut in a classic straight 1940s style with padded shoulders and a loose fit throughout the body. The small collar leads to a single row of six buttons that fasten the coat. The coat is adorned throughout with decorative soutache embroidered fleurs de lis and there are functional slit pockets at the waist. The large turn up cuffs finish off the sleeves which are cut in a slightly voluminous silhouette (not quite a bishop sleeve, but nearly). Inside, the coat is lined in rayon faille and has a maker’s label for Forstmann.
Bust: 46”
Shoulders: 14” seam to seam
Length: 44”
The coat is in very good condition, however there is some discolouration and a repair to the lining as pictured. There is also a hole in the left pocket lining and it is missing the bottom most button, however for walking comfort this would be unlikely to be fastened anyway. There is the faintest of stains on the sleeve near one of the fleurs de lis. It is only visible when really bright light hits it at a certain angle and we had to enhance the picture so it can be seen.
