Original Early 1950s 50s Vintage Teal Gabardine His And Hers Skirt Suit And Matching Blazer
These wonderful garments were made as a part of a matching his and hers custom order in 1951. The set consists of a ladies skirt suit and men’s blazer produced in a teal coloured gabardine.
The skirt suit features an open v neckline with a downward turned notched lapel collar. A single row of four buttons runs down the jacket from the point of the neckline to the waist. A pair of functional slit waist pockets with flap covering are a useful and practical addition to a slightly nipped waist. The matching skirt has a side metal zipper with top button closure and a box kick pleat topped with arrow stitching at the front and back. Inside, the jacket is lined in satin, has a MB monogram as well as a maker’s custom order label.
The matching men’s jacket features strong padded shoulders to give an exaggerated silhouette. It is cut in a double breasted style with a horizontal lapel collar with decorative button holes on each side. A pair of functional slit waist pockets and a similar breast pocket combines with an inside pocket to give plenty of space for keys and a wallet. Inside, the jacket is lined in satin and has a monogram label for BA and a similar maker’s custom order label. The blazer could alternatively be worn as a loose fitting ladies overcoat that would perfectly match the suit

This garment is available to purchase with or without dress shields. These clever little contraptions have been made by our seamstress to an original 1940s pattern and can be simply attached to your garment by tack stitching at the corners of the underarm seam, pinning (we wouldn’t recommend that, it hurts if it goes wrong, so if you try this, it is at your own risk only) or inserting tiny poppers. They then stand ready to absorb any sweat and body odours as needed and you can simply detach and launder them instead of your garment, saving you a fortune in dry cleaning bills.
They are equally suitable for suits, blazers and dresses and come in two different options:
1. Pure cream cotton for your heavier weight dresses, blazers and suits
or
2. White cotton muslin for lightweight summer dresses (so they don’t show through the fabric)
They are universally sized and super easy to use even for a sewing novice as only a couple of tiny stitches are required at each side to secure them.
We sell Dress Shields as a standalone item or at a discount if you purchase them with a garment. We will select the appropriate type to match the garment you have purchased.
