Original Early 1940s 40s Vintage Forest Green Crepe Dress
This gorgeous dress was made from forest green crepe in the early 1940s. It is cut to a classic 1940s silhouette with strong padded shoulders and a nipped waist. The front of the dress gives a mock suit effect through the use of a pleated edge. This pleating creates a sweetheart neckline and then runs down the centre of the bodice similar to jacket edges meeting and finally sweeps along the top of the hips to create a mock hem. Stunning pin tuck detailing decorated the shoulders above the pleated edging. Four large pleats to the centre front of the skirt give it wonderful movement. The waist is further nipped in with the attached fabric sash which ties at the back of the dress. The dress closes with an original metal side zipper for easy access and a single hook at the neckline.
Bust: 32”
Waist: 24”
Hips: 34”
Shoulders: 13 1/2” seam to seam
Length: 41”
The skirt is in good condition, however there is some faint discolouration to the underarms and the ends of the fabric tie as well as a few untidy seams. There is also a tiny snag, a pinhole and a small section of hem needs tacking back up. We believe the two bodice darts have been let out at some point but the colour differential is barely visible.
