This lovely dress was made from a rich burgundy rayon velvet in the late 1970s / early 1980s. It was cut to resemble a 1930s style with beautiful gathered puff sleeves and a longer length skirt. A deep plunging V neckline marks the beginning of a line of four faceted buttons. Below the buttons is a short plastic zipper for easier access. Pleats at the waistline give a little volume and movement to the skirt. Interestingly, we think we may have photographed this piece back to front (the label is at the side of the deep V neckline) and it could equally be worn with the high neckline at the front for a more demure 1930s style look with a deep V back. Inside, the dress is lined in cotton and there is a maker’s label for Lanz as well as a label denoting size and fabric content.

The dress is in very good condition, however there are some depressions to the pile of the velvet, which are only noticeable from certain angles.
