1940s/1950s Brown Tie with Fishing Line & Hook Novelty Print – Brent, Montgomery Ward

A fun one for anyone who likes their vintage with a story to tell. Worked across a rich rust-brown ground, a pair of turquoise fishing lines curl and loop down the blade, each ending in a hand-drawn hook trailing a string of bait, with a scattering of loose dots crossing the middle to suggest the line drifting through water. Novelty ties like this were everywhere in the late 1940s and into the 1950s, when hobbies and sporting pursuits became a favourite subject for menswear designers looking to inject a bit of humour into an otherwise plain suit. The satin-finish silk has a lovely soft sheen, and the graphic is simple but well drawn, with none of the clumsiness you sometimes see on cheaper novelty prints from the period.

A great find for anyone drawn to postwar American sporting and hobby novelty ties, or for the keen angler who wants their passion reflected in their wardrobe rather than just their tackle box.

Condition:

Good condition. The label shows some fraying and loose threads along the edge, which is common for ties of this age, but the fabric itself is clean with only a faint stain on the back as pictured.
