Original 1940s 40s Vintage Navy Blue Gabardine Skirt Suit With Button Embellishments By Crownley
This stunning skirt suit was made in the 1940s from a navy blue gabardine. The jacket is cut with a classic hour glass silhouette and consequently has the padded shoulders and nipped waist associated with the period. A super wide notched collar exaggerates the open v-neckline. The point of this neckline marks the start of a single line of four round fabric covered buttons. Many more of these fabric covered buttons have been used as embellishments for two diagonal panels located on the wearer’s right hand side where you would normally expect bust and waist pockets. Inside, the jacket is lined in crepe and has a maker’s label for Crownley. The matching skirt has a metal side zipper with a double hook and eye fastening as well as a press stud above it.

The suit is in good condition, however there are two faint white lines to the skirt. These have improved through scratching at the fabric and will likely lift with dry cleaning. There is also a tiny hole to the collar and yoke, a patch repair to the lining at the hem of the jacket and some under arm staining to the lining. Please see pictures for further details.
