Original 1940s 40s Vintage Grey Wool Plaid Skirt Suit
This wonderful suit was made from a grey Wool in the late 1940s. The window pane check design features brown lines on a grey background. The padded shoulders are further emphasised with the folded overhanging fabric at the shoulders, which enhance the wearer’s shape to give that classic angular 1940s silhouette. This silhouette is further strengthened with clever darting at the waist to create a fitted nipped waist. Five fabric covered buttons run from the small collar to the waist and turn up cuffs finish off the jacket in style. Inside, the jacket is lined in peach faille but does not have any maker’s labels. The skirt features a huge box pleat at the front and closes with its original metal side zipper and a hook above.
Bust: 40” (tight 42”)
Shoulders: 17” seam to seam
Length: 29 1/2” plus 4” hem
The skirt suit us in good condition, however there are a few marks, holes and darns as pictured as well as some discolouration to the lining at the underarms and a seam split in the lining.
