Original 1940s 40s Vintage Grey Wool Princess Cut Jacket
This wonderful jacket was made from a grey wool in the 1940s. The garment is cut in a sought after princess cut with strong padded shoulders and a nipped waist creating a hourglass silhouette. The figure is further enhanced using clever darting that emanates out from the waist at both the front and the back of the jacket. The strong princess line is even more pronounced at the back of the jacket where the lower section flared out from the nipped waist. A wonderful triangular yolk gives further emphasis to the shoulder line at the back. The strong lines continue with a large wing collar and turnup cuffs. A line of three aubergine coloured buttons with brass centres is used to fasten the jacket at the bust. Inside, the jacket is lined with a sand coloured crepe and does not have any maker’s labels (it is possible to see where one was once attached).
Shoulders: 16” from edges of shoulder pads (no shoulder seams)
Bust: 36” possibly a little more due to dolman sleeves
Length: 28 1/4”
The jacket is in good condition, however there are a number of tiny holes and darns as pictured. The jacket is likely to have originally had a belt, which is no longer present.
