Original 1940s 40s Vintage Cobalt Blue Skirt Suit
This stunning suit was made from a cobalt blue gabardine in the 1940s. It is cut in the classic 1940s hourglass silhouette with padded shoulders and a nipped waist. The sharp collar marks the beginning of a row of three fabric covered buttons which fasten the jacket. The wearer’s right bust has been decorated with the triple slit detail which is mirrored at the left waist. The triangular seam work at the back of the jacket adds another fabulous design element and a similar triangular motive is used in the panel work at the sides. The sleeves feature a stunning arrow decoration that runs along the shoulders and down the sleeves to the biceps. Inside, the jacket is lined in blue faille and has a maker’s label for Walter of Beverly Hills. The matching skirt is cut in a flattering longer length and fastens with an original metal side zipper and press stud and hook closure above.
Shoulders: 16” seam to seam
Waist: 27” (tight 28”)
Length: 31” plus 2” hem
The suit is in very good condition with only some damage to one of the buttons and very slight discolouration to the underarm lining as pictured.
