Original 1940s 40s Vintage Burgundy Iridescent Taffeta Suit
This beautiful suit was made in the 1940s from a burgundy taffeta with a small circular pattern. The fabric is incredible and has a real iridescence to it as it moves. The suit was cut in the classic hourglass silhouette of the period with strong padded shoulders and a nipped waist. The unusual large leads to a row of four fabric covered buttons which fasten the jacket at the front and turn up cuffs finish off the sleeves beautifully. At the back, two large pleats on each side create a wonderful bustle back peplum. Inside, the jacket is unlined and without maker’s labels. The matching skirt has been cut in a flattering flared shape and fastens with an original metal side zipper and hook closure above.
Shoulders: 14” seam to seam
Length: 30 1/2” plus 1 3/4” hem
The suit is in very good condition with only a tiny seam pop at the shoulder as pictured. There are also some slightly visible stitch holes where a dart was taken out abs some untidy seams inside the garment.
