Original 1940s 40s Vintage Soft Tan Leather Swing Coat By Californian Sportswear Co
This wonderful coat was made from super soft tan leather (most likely calf) in the 1940s. Literally this is the softest leather you will ever touch! The coat is cut with the strong padded shoulders of the 1940s and extends out at the hem. It can be worn unbelted in a classic straight cut but also has belt loops allowing the waist to be cinched in with the addition of a belt. A sharp collar marks the starting point for three leather covered buttons, which finish at the bust. There are functional rounded slit waist pockets and a semicircular yoke. Inside, the coat is lined in rayon and has a maker’s label for Californian Sports Co.
Bust: 42” but intended to be worn loosely (photos are unpinned on a UK size 6 mannequin)
Waist: 40” unbelted
Shoulders: 16 1/2” seam to seam
The coat is in good condition for its age and material with the leather still soft and supple. However, there are some marks to the exterior of the coat as well as some general mottling of the colour, which could be attributed to patina. There is a wear hole at the collar and a repaired hole to the back of the coat. Inside there is a little underarm staining as pictured. The original belt is no longer present.
