Original 1930s 30s Vintage Black Crepe Evening Gown With Beaded Passementerie Tassels

This elegant evening gown was made from a good quality black crepe in the 1930s. The dress has been cut in a full length style with a high waist, inverted V shaped waist seam and flattering gathering to the bust. The angular square neckline is surrounded by a line of pretty yet subtle net lace and glass beads. At each corner there are decorative embellishments with passementrie tassels made up of more stunning glass beads. The rear of the dress has a V-back line that extends down to the press stud and hook and eye fastenings. Inside, the dress as a grosgrain support ribbon at the waist which bears the maker’s label for Madame Odile of Lille, France. 

There is some slight stretch to the fabric, which results in a size range, however due to the internal structure, the waist measurement is fixed.

The dress is in very good condition, however there is some slight bead loss and thread pulls to the lace as well as a couple of missing tassels. However this is easily overlooked owing to the petite nature of the beads and colour of the garment. There is also a small seam pop to the wearer’s back right waist.

This garment is available to purchase with or without dress shields. These clever little contraptions have been made by our seamstress to an original 1940s pattern and can be simply attached to your garment by tack stitching at the corners of the underarm seam, pinning (we wouldn’t recommend that, it hurts if it goes wrong, so if you try this, it is at your own risk only) or inserting tiny poppers. They then stand ready to absorb any sweat and body odours as needed and you can simply detach and launder them instead of your garment, saving you a fortune in dry cleaning bills.

They are equally suitable for suits, blazers and dresses and come in two different options:

1. Pure cream cotton for your heavier weight dresses, blazers and suits

or

2. White cotton muslin for lightweight summer dresses (so they don’t show through the fabric)

They are universally sized and super easy to use even for a sewing novice as only a couple of tiny stitches are required at each side to secure them.
