Original 1940s 40s Vintage Sand Coloured Silk New Look Skirt Suit With Lace Trim
This wonderful skirt suit was made from a lightweight sand coloured silk in the late 1940s. The suit takes strong inspiration from Dior’s New Look design with a full below knee length skirt combined with rounded shoulders and a cinched waist. The use of a rounded shawl collar also nods to Dior’s style and marks the beginning of a line of fabric covered buttons that extend down to the waist. A white openwork lace trim is used to highlight the bottom of the sleeves, jacket and skirt. The skirt is fastened using a metal zipper with two metal hooks and eyes above it and uses built in underskirting to add volume. Inside, the jacket is unlined and has a maker’s label for K. Rita of Berkeley Square.
