Original Late 1930s 30s Early 1940s 40s Volup Vintage Olive Green Boucle Coat With Sailor Style Fur Collar
This stunning coat was made from an olive coloured boucle wool in the late 1930s. It is cut in a classic princess shape with padded shoulders and a darted waist. The sleeves have wonderful volume at the top and terminate in a tight fitting cuff. The collar is adorned with fur and cut in a triangular sailor style at the back. At the front it runs down into long placket to the waist. At the waist, the coat closes with a single press stud and a mock button. Inside, the coat is lined in taupe crepe and has a maker’s label for Thornton Varley Ltd of Hull. There are also too fabric ties, which wrap around the wearer’s body and thread through the fabric loop at the waist. This draws the coat into a slimmer mid 1930s silhouette. However if the coat is worn without the ties, it fits more like a traditional princess coat with a slight flare to the skirt.
Shoulders: 15 1/2” seam to seam
Length: 46 1/2”
The coat is in good condition, however there is some wear to the fur collar as pictured which would benefit from reinforcing as well as damage to the lining. There is also a hole to the boucle on the inner placket that is not visible when the coat is done up as well as a few near invisible darns elsewhere. The original belt is no longer present.
