This fabulous coat was made from a heavy black wool crepe in the 1930s. It was cut in a strong collarless silhouette with a large dart on each shoulder running down to the bust. The coat is intended to be worn open fronted with the oversized button at the neckline being decorative only. Three mock buttonholes have been created through black stitching adorned with tiny bright blue beads. Matching stitch and bead decoration also highlights the edges of the functional pockets at the waist. Large turn up cuffs finish off the sleeves in style. Inside, the coat is lined in black satin and has a National Recovery Board label.

Bust: 42”

Shoulders: 17 1/4” seam to seam

Length: 38 1/4”

The coat is in good condition, however the lining on one underarm needs to be repaired and the other has already been fixed. There is also a darn as pictured and a slight seam split at the back of the neck.
