Original 1930s 30s Vintage Black Marlene Dietrich Style Dinner Suit
This beautiful dinner suit was made in the 1930s from a splendid quality black wool. Whilst this suit stated its life as a menswear piece, it is much closer to a modern female size and gives us super strong androgynous Marlene Dietrich vibes. The suit boasts a v-neckline with upward pointing satin peak lapels combined with a wool collar. The padded shoulders and nipped waist with single button fastening create a strong silhouette. The jacket features functional waist pockets as well as an internal breast pocket. Inside, the jacket is lined in a textured black satin with a white satin used for the sleeves and has a maker’s label for Novacek Marek of Cognac and Saintes.
The same satin that adorns the collar is used as a stripe down the side of the trousers and there are buckle adjustable tabs at the sides of the trousers. The trousers are high waisted and also boast double pleats to the front as well as a button up fly with top metal hook and eye. To the back, there are functional pockets in an arrow style and buttons inside to attach braces.
Shoulders: 16 1/2” seam to seam
Rise: 15 3/4”
Inside Leg: 27 1/2”
Outside Leg: 41 1/4”
The suit is in very good condition however there are two professional darns to the front crotch of the suit as well as some tiny spots to the sleeve lining as pictured.
