Original 1920s Vintage Black Satin Geometric Chevron Art Deco Flapper Coat By Gauche
This incredible coat was made from the silkiest black satin in the 1920s and it feels unbelievably rich and sumptuous to the touch. It can be worn open but alternatively will close with a beautiful button at the drop. waist and can be tied at the neck using the long ties. These ties hang over the large pointed lapels at the neckline giving a flattering layered look. The ties also feature contrasting black crepe stripes at the tips, a detail which is mirrored at the cuffs of the coat. This contrasting black crepe fabric was also used to create the most stunning feature of this piece, the large contrasting chevron stripe decoration on the back and sides of the coat. It gives it true Art Deco flapper girl style! The coat is lined in tan rayon crepe and retains its original maker’s label for Gauche.
Drop waist: 44 1/2”
Shoulders: 16” seam to seam
Length: 43”
The coat is in good condition, however the lining has seam splitting at the arm pits, some tearing in a number of places and significant historic water damage, none of which is visible when worn. There are five small holes on the neck tie, two of which have been pictured, again these are not particularly noticeable when worn. There is also a very slight colour differential at the back of the collar.
