Original 1920s 20s Vintage Art Deco Black Braid Work Flapper Coat
This beautiful coat was made in the 1920s from black crepe. It cleverly uses alternating panels of the crepe and the satinised reverse side of the fabric. Long lapels run down the whole length of the open fronted coat, which hangs loosely in a classic flapper style. Incredibly detailed braid work is used to decorate this beautiful garment by creating geometric panels at the front and back of the bodice, adorning the sleeves as well as creating a drop waist and emphasising the lines of the skirt. Inside, the coat is unlined with a velvet panel at the dropped waist and without maker’s labels.
Due to the loose open fit, this coat is suitable for a variety of sizes.
Bust: 40” with edges meeting
Shoulders: 14 3/4” seam to seam
Length: 47”
The coat is in very good condition with only a few areas of slightly untidy stitching and a small area of the hem starting to drop as pictured. The underarm seams have recently been reinforced to give added strength, please see the last picture for inside and outside pictures.
