Magnificent Original 1940s Vintage Two Tone Colour Block Grey Gabardine Princess Coat By Swansdown
This amazing coat was made in the 1950s from wool gabardine in a warm grey tone. It was cut in the classic princess silhouette of the period with strong padded shoulders, a nipped waist and a flared skirt. The coat has been accentuated throughout with a darker grey fabric, which highlight the small collar, turn up cuffs, functional slit pockets and accent the shoulder line. The defined shoulder yolk draws further attention to the strong silhouette and defines the beginning of the beautiful dart work that runs from bust to waist at the sides and back of the coat to create that nipped in waist. The coat fastens with a single popper at the waist and the skirt falls in beautiful pleats, giving the piece great movement and swish. Inside, the coat is lined in crepe and has a maker’s label for Swansdown.
Shoulders: 16 1/2” seam to seam
Length: 48” plus 1 1/2” hem
The coat is in good condition, however there are a few darns, marks and holes (mainly near the hem) as pictured as well as some wear and discolouration to the lining.
