LAYAWAY PAYMENT 3 OF 5 - RESERVED FOR LINDSAY - Exceptional Original 1950s Vintage Fully Beaded Turquoise Gown Hollywood Dress Unlabelled Gene Shelly
RESERVED FOR LINDSAY PLEASE DO NOT PURCHASE - LAYAWAY PAYMENT 3 OF 5 due 9th January 2023
This exceptional dress was made from turquoise wool in the late 1950s / early 1960s. It was cut in a form fitting, full length silhouette and has been entirely covered in thousands of iridescent sequins. This piece exudes true Hollywood glamour and is certain to make an entrance whenever it is worn. The thousands of turquoise sequins have been supplemented with more detailed draping beads which have been arranged in a subtle chevron pattern. This pattern only becomes apparent when viewed from a distance and cleverly works to elongate and shape the wearer’s body. The dress has wide straps creating a V neckline at the front and the low cut back adds a further sexy statement detail. In trademark Gene Shelly style, there is a split only on one side of the dress to allow for comfortable movement while maintaining that sultry wriggle. The dress fastens with an original metal zipper at the back and it unlined inside.
We believe this to be a piece by the infamous Gene Shelly that has sadly lost its label. The workmanship and interior construction are in line with that of labelled Gene Shelly pieces and an almost identical piece in black was recently sold with the Boutique International label.
There is some stretch to the fabric to allow the dress to be truly form fitting and the below measurements show the fabric at rest and it’s maximum comfortable stretch.
Length: 51” plus 1” fully beaded hem
The dress is in very good condition with no issues to note.

This garment is available to purchase with or without dress shields. These clever little contraptions have been made by our seamstress to an original 1940s pattern and can be simply attached to your garment by tack stitching at the corners of the underarm seam, pinning (we wouldn’t recommend that, it hurts if it goes wrong, so if you try this, it is at your own risk only) or inserting tiny poppers. They then stand ready to absorb any sweat and body odours as needed and you can simply detach and launder them instead of your garment, saving you a fortune in dry cleaning bills.
They are equally suitable for suits, blazers and dresses and come in two different options:
1. Pure cream cotton for your heavier weight dresses, blazers and suits
2. White cotton muslin for lightweight summer dresses (so they don’t show through the fabric)
They are universally sized and super easy to use even for a sewing novice as only a couple of tiny stitches are required at each side to secure them.
We sell Dress Shields as a standalone item or at a discount if you purchase them with a garment. We will select the appropriate type to match the garment you have purchased.
