RESERVED ON LAYAWAY FOR CARLA - PLEASE DO NOT PURCHASE - LAYAWAY PAYMENT 2 OF 4 - due 28th March 2022
This amazing coat was made from butter soft caramel coloured suede in the 1940s. It was cut in a beautiful princess coat silhouette with padded shoulders, a nipped waist and a flared skirt. The integral suede tie belt is attached at the sides of the coat with fabric covered buttons and allows the wearer to cinch in the waist even further. Matching buttons have also been used to adorn the tabs on the sleeve cuffs as well as the large patch pockets at the hips. The huge sharp notched lapel collar further emphasises the strong silhouette. At the back, there is an inverted pleat at the centre of the bodice and the back of the skirt has been beautifully pleated to breathe a flattering bustle style. Inside, the coat is lined in bronze satin with an internal waist tie and has a maker’s label for Scully, Los Angeles. Scully were famed for their exquisite quality suede goods, particularly coats and we have found an advert from 1947 for an almost identical coat.
Waist: 30” but can be cinched smaller with the belt
Shoulders: 15” seam to seam
Length: 38 1/2”
The coat is in remarkable condition for period suede with only a couple of barely noticeable marks at the lower side and a burn hole to the lining as pictured.
