LAYAWAY PAYMENT 1 OF 3 - RESERVED FOR LILIAN - Stunning Original 1940s 40s Navy Blue Miron Wool Suit With Beaded Collar
RESERVED ON LAYAWAY FOR LILIAN - PLEASE DO NOT PURCHASE - LAYAWAY PAYMENT 1 of 3 due 30th December 2021
This stunning suit was made from beautiful navy blue Miron wool in the late 1940s. It was cut in the classic hourglass silhouette of the period with padded shoulders and a nipped waist. Beautiful darting further emphasises the shape of the blazer. The sharp collar has been adorned with iridescent blue beadwork on the wearer’s right side and leads to a single row of six fabric covered buttons which fasten the jacket. There are small functional pockets at the waist and turn up cuffs finish off the sleeves beautifully. Inside, the blazer is lined in navy crepe and has a maker’s label for Fashionbilt, a retailer’s label for Ann Cavent as well as the Miron wool label. The matching skirt fastens with an original metal side zipper and press stud closure above.
Shoulders: 16 1/2” seam to seam
Waist: 27” (tight 28”) with room to move the press stud across 1-2”
Length: 29 1/2” plus 2 1/2” hem
The suit is in good condition, however there are a few tiny pinholes as well as a larger hole at the back of the sleeve as pictured. We have left them unrepaired as a repair may highlight them rather than disguise them. There are also a couple of missing beads which are only noticeable upon close inspection. We think that the suit might in fact be unworn deadstock as the pockets are still sewn closed as the day it was purchased.
This garment is available to purchase with or without dress shields. These clever little contraptions have been made by our seamstress to an original 1940s pattern and can be simply attached to your garment by tack stitching at the corners of the underarm seam, pinning (we wouldn’t recommend that, it hurts if it goes wrong, so if you try this, it is at your own risk only) or inserting tiny poppers. They then stand ready to absorb any sweat and body odours as needed and you can simply detach and launder them instead of your garment, saving you a fortune in dry cleaning bills.
They are equally suitable for suits, blazers and dresses and come in two different options:
1. Pure cream cotton for your heavier weight dresses, blazers and suits
2. White cotton muslin for lightweight summer dresses (so they don’t show through the fabric)
They are universally sized and super easy to use even for a sewing novice as only a couple of tiny stitches are required at each side to secure them.
We sell Dress Shields as a standalone item or at a discount if you purchase them with a garment. We will select the appropriate type to match the garment you have purchased.
