Incredible Original Vintage 1940s 40s Navy Blue Tiered Gabardine Suit
This stunning suit was made from navy blue gabardine in the 1940s. It is cut in a classic 1940s hourglass silhouette with padded shoulders and a nipped waist. The small collar marks the beginning of a row of seven fabric covered buttons which fasten the jacket at the front. The blazer features fantastic statement tiering at the sides which give the piece a super flattering peplum effect. Inside, the jacket is lined in rayon faille and is without maker’s labels. The matching skirt fastens with an original metal side zipper and a hook closure above.
Shoulders: 15 1/2” seam to seam
Waist: 23” with 1” room to move the button
Length: 27 1/2”
The suit is in good condition, however there are some nibbles and pinholes on the skirt, particularly near the hem, as pictured as well as a small fray near the shoulder and on one buttonhole. For some reason the jacket lining is slightly longer than the outer fabric at the back and needs to be shortened. The rear skirt seam has been repaired at some point.
