Incredible Original Late 1940s / Early 1950s Black, Lilac And Cream Atomic Silk Suit By Arthur Weiss

This stunning suit was made in the 1950s from raw silk. It was cut in the classic early 1950s silhouette with rounded shoulders and a nipped waist that can be further cinched in with the original fabric belt. The suit has a strong atomic vibe with a large geometric collar in shades of lilac, slight grey and cream. The collar cleverly disguises the buttons that fasten the blazer. Matching trim adorns the turn up cuffs and small semi circular pockets streamline the front of the blazer. Inside, the blazer is unlined with original fabric dress shields and a maker’s label for Arthur Weiss Original. The matching skirt features darting at the waist and a vent with multiple layers of pleating. It fastens with an original metal side zipper and hook closure above.

The suit is in good condition, however there are a few marks, frays and repairs as pictured as well as an area of discolouration at the inside of the neck, which is partially visible depending on the collar configuration but may lift with cleaning. If the collar was pressed to stand a little higher, the discolouration would almost entirely be hidden on the inside.

This garment is available to purchase with or without dress shields. These clever little contraptions have been made by our seamstress to an original 1940s pattern and can be simply attached to your garment by tack stitching at the corners of the underarm seam, pinning (we wouldn’t recommend that, it hurts if it goes wrong, so if you try this, it is at your own risk only) or inserting tiny poppers. They then stand ready to absorb any sweat and body odours as needed and you can simply detach and launder them instead of your garment, saving you a fortune in dry cleaning bills.

They are equally suitable for suits, blazers and dresses and come in two different options:

1. Pure cream cotton for your heavier weight dresses, blazers and suits

or

2. White cotton muslin for lightweight summer dresses (so they don’t show through the fabric)

They are universally sized and super easy to use even for a sewing novice as only a couple of tiny stitches are required at each side to secure them.
