Incredible Original 1940s Volup Vintage Mustard Yellow And Brown Houndstooth Swing Coat
This magnificent coat was made in the 1940s from mustard yellow and brown wool in a houndstooth pattern. It was cut in the classic swing coat style of the period, falling loosely from strong padded shoulders. The small collar leads to five buttons that fasten the coat at the bust and the notched turn up cuffs bring in the wide sleeves to give a slight bishop sleeve effect. Buttons also adorn the functional pockets at the sides of the coat and the back falls beautifully giving the piece lovely movement. Inside, the coat was lined in brown satin with a warm wool interlining and there is a maker’s label for Avonshire as well as a National Recovery Board tag.
Bust: 44”
Shoulders: 15” seam to seam
Length: 40 1/2” plus 3” hem
The coat is in very good condition with only a faint mark and some wear to the buttonholes as pictured. The lining was very worn and sections have been replaced with brown rayon, retaining as much of the original satin as possible.
