Incredible Original 1940s 40s Vintage Dark Navy Blue Gabardine Belted Rain Coat
This incredible coat was made from deep navy blue wool gabardine in the 1940s. It was cut in a classic wartime double breasted silhouette with strong padded shoulders and an original fabric belt to cinch in the waist. The large notched lapel collar and sleeve tabs give this coat a classic rain jacket styling. The tailoring is just beautiful, so sharp and iconically 1940s. At the back, there is a button vent to allow room for movement. Inside, the coat is part lined in rayon and has maker’s labels for The Toggery and Watertite The United Sponging Company as well as the Amalgamated Garment Workers Union tag in the pocket alongside a tailor’s label with the date, 16th September 1942, and the original owner’s name, Dortha Madge Johnson who is believed to have been a nurse in WW2.
