Incredible Original 1930s Vintage Dress And Coat Set With Soutache Details

This incredible dress set was made from a navy rayon blend in the 1930s. It consists of a typically 1930s dress with gathered puff sleeves and a nipped waist. Shirring at the shoulders and waist shapes the bust and allows delicate pleats to fall across the bodice. The sharp V neckline adds a super flattering detail and the skirt is gently flared for beautiful movement. The dress fastens with poppers at the side.  

The matching coat accommodates the puff sleeves perfectly under its own gathered and padded three quarter length sleeves. It features an unusual inverse rounded neckline which is further emphasises by the wonderful sweeping soutache detailing that adorns the shoulders and the top of the bust. Beautiful dart work nips in the waist for a fitted silhouette and the coat fastens with six fabric covered buttons and a hook and eye at the front. The coat and dress are unlined and do not have any maker’s labels.

The dress set is in very good condition with only a slight fray at the V neck point, some discolouration and a few tiny pinholes in the jacket as pictured.

This garment is available to purchase with or without dress shields. These clever little contraptions have been made by our seamstress to an original 1940s pattern and can be simply attached to your garment by tack stitching at the corners of the underarm seam, pinning (we wouldn’t recommend that, it hurts if it goes wrong, so if you try this, it is at your own risk only) or inserting tiny poppers. They then stand ready to absorb any sweat and body odours as needed and you can simply detach and launder them instead of your garment, saving you a fortune in dry cleaning bills.

They are equally suitable for suits, blazers and dresses and come in two different options:

1. Pure cream cotton for your heavier weight dresses, blazers and suits

or

2. White cotton muslin for lightweight summer dresses (so they don’t show through the fabric)

They are universally sized and super easy to use even for a sewing novice as only a couple of tiny stitches are required at each side to secure them.
