Fabulous Original Vintage 1940s 40s Navy Blue Mini Fedora With Pink And Purple Embellishments
This amazing hat was made from navy blue felt in the 1940s. It was fashioned in the style of a toy tilt hat, which perches on the head at a jaunty angle. The shaped crown has been decorated with large bows in shades of pale pink, lavender and coral at one side. The pale pink and lavender ribbons wrap around the back of the hat and trail along the brim. A hat elastic helps to secure the piece on the head but adding a hat pin would be advisable for more security.
This hat belonged to the collection of Stephen Furniss, who established the costume department at Bonham’s auction house in the 1970s. He was a prolific collector of 1940s clothing and accessories and a substantial part of his collection was exhibited at the Imperial War Museum in London during the “Forties Fashion and the New Look” exhibition in 1996 and recently in the “Fashion on a Ration” exhibition in 2015.
As this hat perches on the wearer’s head, it is suitable for a variety of head sizes.
The hat is in very good condition with only a few pinholes to the fabric and ribbon decoration as pictured. These were likely made by hat pins.
