Fabulous Original 1940s Vintage Red Embroidered Mexican Tourist Jacket
This fabulous Mexican tourist jacket was made from rich red felted wool in the 1940s. It was cut in the classic open fronted silhouettes that is common for tourist jackets of this period. The jacket has been embroidered and appliquéd throughout with traditional brightly coloured images of people and flora including a large dancing couple on the back. The collar, plackets, sleeve cuffs and patch pockets have been finished off with crisscross edge stitching to add a wonderful detail. The jacket is unlined and has a maker’s label for Felas.
Bust: up to 40” with edges meeting
Shoulders: 13 3/4” seam to seam
Length: 27”
The jacket is in good condition, however, there are a few marks and areas of loose appliqué and embroidery as pictured. The Mexico lettering on the dancer’s skirt has lost most of its sequins.
