Fabulous Original 1940s 40s Vintage Black Belted Swing Coat
This fabulous coat was made in the 1940s from black wool gabardine and is the picture of versatility. It was cut in a wonderful swing shape falling loosely from the strong padded shoulders with amazing volume and folds across the back. However the original fabric belt allows the wearer to cinch in the waist for a fitted silhouette that emphasises the waist. So you effectively get two coats for the price of one! The wonderful overhanging shoulder design really emphasises the strong shoulder line and the sharp collar leads to a stunning single decorative button at the neck. There are small functional slit pockets at the waist and turn up cuffs finish off the sleeves beautifully. Inside, the coat is lined in satin and does not have any maker’s labels.
Bust: 40”
Shoulders: 17” from edges of the shoulder pads
Length: 37 1/2”
Belt: holes at 28 1/2” - 32”
The coat is in very good condition with only a few barely noticeable pinholes as pictured. There is some seam damage and slight discolouration to the underarm lining as well as some light soiling to the inside of the collar, neither of which is noticeable when worn.
