Fabulous Late 1940s Early 1950s Original Vintage Purple Boucle Wool Princess Coat With Astrakhan Collar
This amazing coat was made from rich purple boucle wool at the end of the 1940s / the beginning of the 1950s. It was cut in a classic princess coat silhouette with strong padded shoulders, a nipped waist and a flared skirt. The sweeping collar was crafted from black astrakhan fur and leads to a single row of three large buttons that fasten the coat. A forth smaller button near the collar allows the coat to be fastened higher on a colder day or should the wearer desire a slightly higher necklined silhouette. If buttoned in this way it also shows off the notching in the fur collar to a greater extent. The back has been beautifully princess seamed to give shape to the piece and large notched turn up cuffs finish off the sleeves. Inside, the coat is lined in sumptuous satin and has a maker’s label for Kapmoor of New York and a retailer’s label for M Salomon of Albany.
Bust: 38”
Waist: 32”
Shoulders: 15” seam to seam
Length: 44”
The coat is in good condition, however there are some marks at the back of the coat as pictured. Due to the striking nature of the coat, they are not very visible when worn. There is a small split at the inside of the collar and we think the buttons may be later replacements.
