Exquisite Original 1930s Vintage Periwinkle Blue Dress Suit
This wonderful dress suit was made from periwinkle blue wool in the late 1930s. It was cut in the classic silhouette of the period with peaked shoulders and a nipped waist.
The dress features a stunning leaf appliqué detail that surrounds the high neckline and four fabric covered buttons fasten the dress at the back of the neck. Darting nips in the waist and it can be further cinched in with the original fabric belt. The skirt is beautifully gored at the hips and these gores open up into pleats at the knee to give fabulous movement to the piece. The dress fastens with poppers at the side.
The matching blazer was exquisitely tailored in the strong early wartime style with gorgeous padded peaked shoulders. The collarless neckline and stunning shoulder yolk further emphasise the strong silhouette of the jacket and three fabric buttons fasten it at the waist. Clever darting pulls in the waist and the functional patch pockets have been adorned with appliqué decorations that match the leaves at the neckline. The jacket is unlined inside and remarkably there are no maker’s labels present.

This garment is available to purchase with or without dress shields. These clever little contraptions have been made by our seamstress to an original 1940s pattern and can be simply attached to your garment by tack stitching at the corners of the underarm seam, pinning (we wouldn’t recommend that, it hurts if it goes wrong, so if you try this, it is at your own risk only) or inserting tiny poppers. They then stand ready to absorb any sweat and body odours as needed and you can simply detach and launder them instead of your garment, saving you a fortune in dry cleaning bills.
They are equally suitable for suits, blazers and dresses and come in pure white cotton.
They are universally sized and super easy to use even for a sewing novice as only a couple of tiny stitches are required at each side to secure them.
We sell Dress Shields as a standalone item or at a discount if you purchase them with a garment. We will select the appropriate type to match the garment you have purchased.
